Our ambition is to bridge the current labour gap that our industry faces, aligning with the National Shipbuilding Strategy and equipping our apprentices with skills that add value to the maritime industry
So as an Apprentice at A&P Group, what will you do?
- We’re offering an incredible opportunity for ambitious individuals to become part of our team here at A&P Tyne. You’ll gain real-world skills as you work alongside experts in their field
- With our apprenticeships you’ll earn while you learn and receive job-specific training, experience and recognised qualifications that will kickstart your career
- You’ll study at college and also receive hands on instruction, with ongoing guidance to make sure that your skills continue to develop throughout your apprenticeship
- Through our on-boarding and site induction process you’ll get off to a good start, most importantly ensuring PPE and safe working practices are instilled and you’ll learn about real working life
- You’ll be training to apprenticeship standards and regulations and will work with the team making sure you’re fully prepared to secure your qualification
- You’ll have regular check-ins and updates with our managers, and our skilled tradespeople to review your progress, gaining constructive feedback to help with your development and overcome any challenges you face
- Maintaining your equipment, you’ll ensure its all in good working condition and safe
We are currently reviewing the programs in preparation for our 2025.
Although we can’t yet confirm exactly which apprenticeships we will have available, we normally offer Level 3 Apprenticeships in the following areas:
- Welding
- Plating / Metal Fabricating
- Electrical
- Fitting
- Commercial
- Health and Safety
- Finance
- HR
Dependent on which area, apprenticeships take two to four years to complete
And what are we looking for?
- Most importantly, a desire to pick up knowledge and experience and become one of the next generation of employees at A&P Tyne
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a hands-on, fast-paced environment including organisation and problem-solving skills
- Qualifications, Minimum of 4 GCSEs including English & Maths (Grade 4-9), Science is also needed in electrical fitting and pipe fitting roles (Grade 4-9)
- Number skills, Analytical skills and Logic
- Initiative and tenacity with self-discipline that means you work at your best all day every day
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Physical fitness as the role may involve working outdoors, working at heights and in confined spaces throughout the facility on the banks of the Tyne
